Let there be light!

Dad has been busy putting up new light fixtures upstairs and down!

This was one of his more clever moment - rest the light on the box, and you don't have to try to hold it up while you attach wires together single-handedly.
SO MUCH EASIER.

The informal dining room.

The kitchen! It's all warm and bright now. ^_^

ALSO!  The wrought iron railings are all installed in the stair well now. And they look lovely.
YAY!

In unrelated news - I have a sinus headache the size of Memphis in the left side of my face, and someone has stolen my box of kleenex at work.
>_<

Inch by inch, the paint roller is taking over.

More of the basement has colour now!

Just need to put tile around the fireplace and this wall will be DONE.

Mom spent a lot of time cleaning up and shining everything into a state of loveliness.

It has stopped looking so much like a construction zone upstairs!

And the basement comes together!

These were taken on the 21st of November, so I'm a bit behind in sharing... but here they are!

The basement bathroom now has walls and a shower! Next step: floor.
And just a fun little side note - it is the only room left to be tiled!!

Painting has commenced in earnest in the basement - this is the bedroom downstairs. It is a *lovely* shade of blue. ^_^

The stairwell has colour!!

The laundry room has walls!! And footprints on the ceiling - which make me smile.

The tile in the office is DONE! And the trim in here has all been painted as well.
YAY!

Ends and Odds; Bits and Bobs. And toilets.

The new patio doors!

Toilets! That WORK!

This part of the kitchen counters is butcher block. Maple.  And it looks wonderful. ^_^

Eventually, there should be a microwave where that drill currently resides. It's a handy spot though.

HARD WOOD FLOORS!!!

Installed and ready for ogling.

How to: Install a Gas Range

Um.. I think it'd be better if you just asked Dad.

I'm not really sure what he did.

BUT! They tried the stove! And it works!

In other news:
The granite countertops are wonderful things of beauty.

What goes on in the basement...

The plumbers came and trenched the floor so the plumbing could all be moved to where we want it.

And once the plumbing was in place, Dad filled all the holes back in and covered it over with fresh concrete.

AND! The lovely double doors that lead from the living room to the office in the basement were put in place.
Don't they look lovely?
Yup.
Lovely.

There are now several coats of mud on the drywall.
Soon, very soon, it will get painted. ^_^

PAINT!

Amazing.
Add colour, and it finally looks like a home.
^_^

It's a Kitchen!

The walls are *PAINTED*

Dad worked hard to get all the upper cabinets on the wall.
Mom and I got to help put up the fridge surround.

And then the fridge came!! YAY!!! And the dishwasher!

Fridge.

It works, and everything. ^_^

This calls for a crowbar!

To pull up subflooring glued to concrete:

Get tip of crowbar roughly under the edge.
Hit it with a hammer.
Hard.

Repeat until crowbar is, in actual fact, *under* the subflooring.
Pry it up.

Move crowbar down 12-18 inches.

Repeat.

Progress, and the last of the destruction.

The kitchen island has been painted! Dad built the back of this out of lovely maple beadboard, and then it got sprayed the same colour as the cabinets that are the inside of it.

The basement! The basement has all it's drywall back! (mostly)
And the saw has been moved into the garage.

And this is the last of the tear-down. The laundry room is going to be in the back, where the toilet currently sits, and the bathroom will be on *this* side of the wall, where the laundry used to be.
It's going to be much better. ^_^

There used to be a wall here.
There is, no more.

But those hanging water pipes occasionally spit at you. So be wary.
