More Cabinetry!

Dad got the corner cabinet all figured out and installed!

And the professional type people came and installed the range hood for us. It has to be connected to the furnace system, so they insisted on doing it themselves.
SURE! No problemo! That range hood cover weighs a *ton*

And we have the beginnings of the hutch in the formal dining room. WOOT!

The people came today to measure everything so they can cut the granite countertops.
Soon, there is going to be a *kitchen*.
A real one!

A Beautiful View

The windows are all in.
All of them.

We can SEE!!!!

And, at night, everyone in the neighbourhood can see us... cuz we don't have any curtains yet.
*heh*

Bathroom Tile!

So we put cement board instead of drywall in the showers. Which is a good plan - cuz it doesn't rot and crumble when it gets wet.
YAY!
The cement board has to be painted with this red stuff before you can start adhering tile to it. Makes it waterproof, or so I understand.

Then! You put tile goop up on the walls, and stick the tile on it!

Looks gorgeous, and both showers upstairs are now complete.

Just in time to cover them so that painting can begin. ^_^
YAY!

Cabinets!

The kitchen cabinets came!!  And the bathroom cabinets!! And the hutch for the formal dining room!

You can't really tell that that's what they are from these boxes, but oh - we *know*

Yup. ^_^

SO! We ripped open some boxes and started setting up cabinets. Just to make sure they fit and all... you know.

Not because we were simply too excited to wait another moment to see the beauty of the cabinets...
*ahem*

We started with the island.
It is sage green.
It is lovely. ^_^

The we moved to rest of the cabinetry! It is ginger coloured (perfect)

But the corner cabinet? The one where the sink goes??  It came as a kit.
Which means we have to build it ourselves.
>_<

So.. Dad's current project is figuring out how to make a corner cabinet.
Yay.

See this big piece of flat cabinet flooring against the window? Yup. That's part of the kit.
Woot.

Let there be triple-paned argon filled better insulating windows.

The new windows came!!

Since this photo was taken, they have installed about 2/3 's of them. The kitchen is done - the master bedroom and bathroom, and some of the basement windows are all switched out for these new lovely lovely things.
These ones don't fill with condensation every morning. Or ever.
And they don't leak water down into the wall beneath them......

And winter came upon them

The banisters are now white.
Well... off-white. A creamier than regular white kind of white.

They look gorgeous. ^_^

AND! The trim that we have been putting up in our spare moments (haha) will be sprayed with the same kind of warm lovely white. So everything will match. ^_^

Tile and tile, oh beautiful tile!

Ok. So they're not the greatest pictures. But it gets you the idea!! And I cannot currently take any more photos of the tile in the kitchen and dining room because it is securely and safely covered with plastic and cardboard.
And what seems like hundreds of boxes are stacked everywhere because.... *drum roll pls*
THE KITCHEN CABINETS ARRIVED THIS MORNING!!!

^_^

We have the new bathtub.
It's not exactly ready to be hooked up... but it sure does look nice. ^_^

Run. Wire Run.

Annnnnd my job as a security system installation tech finally came in handy for this renovation! I put in a bunch of wires for a couple new phone jacks, and some network ports.  The new office will be *connected*.

Yo.

A ladder. A girl's second best friend. Her first best friend is steel fish tape.  Which I really wish had been part of the tool kits they'd given us for installing security systems. It was so much *easier* than a glowrod.....

Up the ladder with wire.

Down the ladder, with wire.

Untangling the wire (these are all very highly skilled jobs, I'll have you know)

Across 2 sections of ceiling, down the hall, through a door frame, into a very small space under the stairs, and back up the ladder, with wire.

Mom wanted to document every stage of this. Especially anything to do with the ladder.

Actually this was the most finicky part, I had to thread the cat 6 and cat 5 cable through existing holes for electrical so that it would sit properly in the wall cavity and not be hanging around making a mess of the storage space under the stairs.

Which is why I look like I'm stuck in the ceiling......

Progression. And a wall.

We have been working steadily along. A lot of the things that have gotten done don't really seem to make much of a difference in the way the place *looks*.... but they are definitely still steps forward!!

The new plumbing is almost done. The new furnace is in.  The windows are supposed to show up sometime in the next week, as are the kitchen cabinets.

The tile flooring upstairs is almost all laid - it has been too cold outside to want to go out on the deck to use the wet saw to cut the edge pieces the last couple of days though....

The island looks more solid now!  It will have wide beadboard added to it yet, and a countertop.. and cabinetry attached to the other side.

We also built A WALL in the basement. *WOOT*

There is an awful lot of math involved with making a wall.
>_<

This is as far as we got it the first night. Since then, we've added some wiring (an electrical plug and a light switch) and some dry wall.  And a phone jack.

I may have had to remove some of the old drywall from the existing wall in order to get the phone jack moved into the new wall.. possibly. Very possibly.
